More and more people are becoming interested in the field of forensic science. Some are interested in entering the field as a career, others need the information for professions such as law enforcement, and the rest are simply curious about the methodologies due to the increasingly popular television shows. Ch 1.) Welcome!
"What Courses Should I Take in High School to Prepare for a Career in Forensic Science?"
That is a question I am often asked. It is recommended by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences that you concentrate on obtaining a solid background in math and sciences. Courses they suggest are biology, chemistry, human anatomy, physics, and of course forensic science (if your school is lucky enough to offer it). They also suggest you take a composition or writing course since forensic scientists do a lot of writing as well.
1. Please discuss the reason(s) why you signed up for Forensic Science.
2. In chapter one we have discussed many fields of forensic science. Which do you find most fascinating? Explain.
i decided to take the forensic science course because I've seen plenty of the CSI shows and I figured it'd be interesting to experience the stuff they do on t.v...also I did some electromagnesis stuff in a.p. biology last year and it dealt with crime seens so I knew this would involve that also.
ReplyDeleteWell, the reason i signed up for forensic science is because i have always been interested in the law enforcement field. I do watch alot of Crime Scene Investigation shows and detective shows and try to solve the cases as they are solving them on the show. I enjoy anything to do with law enforcement and forensic science leans more towards the Crime Scene and detective field of law enforcement then anything else. I enjoy the fine details that happen in a crime scene one small piece could solve the whole case or make a puzzle. I looked at the courses i should take if i am going to take criminal justice when i go to college and they said forensic science would be a great elective to have under my belt. Hopefully what i get out of here will help me for a college level forensic science or a future in the Criminal Justice field.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for the forensic science class because I have always enjoyed watching crime shows on tv and I wanted to learn how people can take the littlest piece of evidence and use it to solve some of the biggest crimes. I am very interested in how people solve crimes even though I do not plan on using this in my future.

ReplyDeleteThe reason I chose to take the Forensic Science course is because I watch a lot of CSI shows and I have also been to the CSI crime scene place in Boston, which really got me into liking forensics. The other reason that I like forensics is because it makes you think harder than most people and you have to look beyong what you see.

I have always found it interesting watching forensic shows and learning the different ways of the laws. Always wondering why there were so many loop holes and different oppurtunities to make a person innocent or guilty.Throughout the year I hope to discover many knew things about forensic science and learn all the basics to understanding this subject.

I love science and thought that this would be different then other class that i have already taken. I love to see how a little piece of something can be used to solve a very complex crime and put a person behind bars
ReplyDeleteI took forensic science this year because I have always watched the CSI shows and have always been interested in the things they did to solve cases. I would like to learn how to do some of the things they do (like fingerprinting). I would like to learn more about this field, so that it could be a possible career in the future. Also, I enjoy science classes very much so I thought this would be a good elective for me!

Taking classes such as Forensic Science open up possible interests and pathways to new fields of study in college and career. This field is attractive to many people because of its a multifaceted career that looks inviting and thrilling which has been highlighted in various recent TV shows and detective novels. I am drawn to the field as well to study detail and learn about the aspects of a forensic scientist.

I have always enjoyed watching forensic science T.V. shows and thought it would be fun to experience some of what I saw on T.V. myself. ReplyDeletei decided to take forensic science because i like to watch bones, ncis, and i also read the books which bones is based on. i have always thought they were interesting. i'm undecided if i would like to go to school to become a veterinaarian or a field in forensic science most likely working with the human body. i also like trying to figure out who did what and how they did it.

ReplyDeleteI choose to take this class because I am interested in studying the field of psychology. One specialty I am considering is criminal psychology. Taking this course and receiving a basic understanding of the crime scene investigating process seemed like information that would prove useful if i were to choose that career path.

It heard it was a class where you really need to think about things and put pieces together to solve a crime, which i like to do. So overall i thought it'd would be a good course to take.

So i thought by taking this course it would be easier to relate to those shows if i had more education on how it all works. I've been watching a lot of Law & Order:SVU and right now thats my most interest, so being in this class I could have my own opinion on what i think happens, until they find the real story then i could compare it with my own.

It fascinates me how by using many fields of science you could either prove someone guilty or innocent. I also took this class because I thought that it could help me in the future to see if I could possibly join a forensic team. I thought this class would help me decide what career I should choose, math teacher or forensic technician.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want this course, I was put in it to fill my schedule. I guess the most interesting thing is entomology and how it can be used to determine how long a person has been dead.
ReplyDelete1. The reasons why I signed up for this class was because it interested me very much. It seems very fun I also really enjoy problem solving. I love the idea of solving crimes and blood spatters. Autopsies also seem neat. I also like to read a lot of crime and mystery books, and they are a big reason why I took this class; to help me further understand what is going on.

ReplyDelete2. I find that pathology is most interesting. It is the investigation of sudden, unexplained, or violent death. I think this is the most interesting because it seems like it would be fun to investigate. I also think it is more exciting then the other fields of forensic science.
1. I signed up for this class because I was interested in the Forensics field. I used to watch CSI all the time and it interested me how they figured out the crimes, and how everything happened. Also I wanted to pursue into a career in the Forensics field. And by taking this class, it will help me decide if I still want to or not.
ReplyDelete2. The most fascinating field I found so far would have to be Pathology because it's really interesting how they can figure out sudden/violent deaths. It must take a lot of knowledge to figure that out.
I decided to take forensic science because i thought it would be interesting to take. I've watched CSI and now i want to see how they do all the things they do on the show. I find polygraphy the most interesting field in chapter one. I just find it really cool how we can tell if someone is lying by their nerves.

1.) I decided to take this forensics course because frankly, I needed something to fill up my schedule and this class seemed pretty interesting. I also basically grew up watching gruesome murders on CSI and other related shows, so I would love to see how it works in the real world.
ReplyDelete2.) I found the crime scene photographer/evidence photographer to be a pretty exciting job, since photography is a passion of mine. I think it would be really great to be able to do something I love and help people at the same time.
I decided to take forensic science because i think it will be fun I have watched t.v showes like csi and it has allways interested me. I would like to learn things like how to solve a crime and finger printing. this course will help me think trough problem and maybe if i come across a crime i will be able to figure it out. I like odontology mainly because all teeth are different and you can tell alot about some one by their teeth

ReplyDeleteI'm really interested in forensic psychology and figuring out how the mind of a criminal works and why they commit the crimes they commit.
Thanks for sharing your reasons for taking the class. Interesting posts on your favorite field in forensics. I wonder if that will change for some of you as you learn about more areas in forensics. Pathology seems to be the current leader as a favorite.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why i chose to sign up for forensic science class is because i'm trying to take all the science based classes in high school that i can. my strongest subject in school is science, but mostly biology therefore i feel like i should go into a career that focuses on the science field. i honestly can say that i'm not a daily watcher of CSI so i really don't have as much knowledge of forensics that most of my peers do. however, i am willing to learn about what the subject is and eventually become an avid CSI fan. although i do not watch shows that forensics in them, i have discovered that i am interested in the mysteries of crimes, therefore, i would love to learn and research and solve mysteries of the past and present.

ReplyDeleteI TOOK FORENSIC SCIENCE BECAUSE I HAVE FRIENDS WHO TOOK FORENSIC SCIENCE AND THEY SEEMED TO ENJOY IT. ANOTHER REASON I TOOK IT WAS BECAUSE I'M LOOKING TO GO INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THIS CLASS WILL SHOW ME WHAT A STATE TROOPER WILL DO AT A CRIME SCENE. I have took bio last year which in one of the activies we have to solve a murder case so I like to look at things that has to deal with the unknown and mystries.

ReplyDeleteIf i had to choose a field that i find most fascinating, it would have to be pathology. i find it really interesting how a crime scene can be created by just one persons mistake and/or simple disgust of the human race. when something happens so suddenly and unexpected, its pretty cool to have professionals show up and analyze the different pieces of evidence left on the scene. i'd like to really get into that and find out some cases that have been studied by pathologists.

I often watch crime shows and was curious to see how the techniques they use are actually done. I decided to take this course because it is a very interesting class i've only heard good things about it. I'm also very interested in the criminal justice field and forensic science is a mandatory course for the field.
ReplyDeleteI would be the most interested in ballistics. Figuring out how and where people were when they got shot or where an explosive blast came from. It would be a job that would never get tiring.

Also it goes along perfectly with the Intro to Criminal Justice course. The part i find most interesting is the hours, people, and dedication that it takes to solve a crime and all the different variables the have to be figured out.

ReplyDeleteI signed up for forensic science because i have always been fascinated by crime scene investigations. I am always on my toes when I hear about criminal acts, wanting to know what happened, who did it, how they figured this out, and what evidence was found/left behind. It is a very interesting topic, one I am never bored to learn more about. I found the forensic science field of Odontology to be the most amusing, because it is amazing that someone can be linked to a murder or considered a suspect through bite marks, or any dental identification.
